Hamilton closes out Week 8 with one of its toughest assignments of the season, traveling to Percival Molson Memorial Stadium to face a Montreal team that has spent much of the year near the top of the CFL standings. The Tiger-Cats have shown they can move the football with Bo Levi Mitchell directing the offense, but his broken ankle has forced them to look elsewhere for offense. Montreal enters this game after another impressive win, backed by one of the league's most efficient passing attacks and a defense that continues to generate takeaways. The Alouettes won the first meeting between these clubs in Week 1, escaping Hamilton with a 30-27 victory, giving them the psychological edge entering Sunday's rematch.
Montreal has been the more complete club through the first half of the season. The Alouettes have consistently protected the football while producing explosive plays through the air, and their defense has been among the CFL's toughest units against both the pass and the run. Hamilton has enough offensive talent to stay competitive for portions of the game, but the Tiger-Cats have struggled to put together four complete quarters against top opponents. The first leg backs the stronger team at home. Montreal has consistently controlled games with balanced offense and a defense that forces opponents into long-yardage situations. Hamilton's offense can still score without Mitchell, although stopping Montreal for four quarters has been a problem for most opponents. As a result, we'll take the over, along with Tyson Philpot to score a touchdown after his incredible start to the season on the outside.
Montreal enters Week 8 carrying the record of a legitimate Grey Cup contender. The Alouettes have remained near the top of the CFL power rankings thanks to efficient quarterback play, solid defense, and strong special teams. Davis Alexander continues to protect the football at an elite level and recently set a CFL record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception, highlighting just how well he has managed the offense this season.
Hamilton, meanwhile, has been far less consistent early in the year. The Tiger-Cats have generated points in bunches during their best performances, yet turnovers, defensive breakdowns, and injuries have prevented them from putting together a sustained winning run. Veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is no longer available due to injury, forcing a combination of Tre Ford and Jake Dolegala into action in his place. So far, that has yet to yield positive results.
The first meeting between these teams offered plenty of offense. Montreal erased a deficit before winning 30-27 in Hamilton, showing its ability to finish games late. That experience should benefit the Alouettes entering the rematch, particularly with home-field advantage on their side. And with Mitchell out, their advantage could grow even more.
Alexander has developed into one of the CFL's most efficient quarterbacks. His willingness to take what defenses allow while avoiding costly mistakes has elevated Montreal's offense. The receiving group continues to create separation downfield, giving Hamilton's secondary a difficult assignment throughout the evening.
From a betting standpoint, laying the points with Montreal appears justified. The Alouettes have the better quarterback play at the moment, the stronger defense, and home-field advantage. Hamilton has enough talent to remain competitive early, but Montreal's consistency should become the deciding factor after halftime.
