The Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors have produced some memorable NBA matchups, including the 2019 NBA Finals and several high-scoring regular-season meetings.
One of those games came on January 27, 2023, when Golden State hosted Toronto at Chase Center. ATS analyst Chase Ruttig backed Over 235 points, identifying several scoring trends that supported the selection. The Warriors eventually won 129-117, sending the combined total comfortably over the line.
Below, we revisit that original prediction, examine what decided the game, and look at the key factors bettors should consider when these teams meet again.
Golden State defeated Toronto 129-117 at Chase Center on January 27, 2023, completing a regular-season sweep of the Raptors.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 35 points and 11 assists, while Klay Thompson added 29 points, including six three-pointers.
Fred VanVleet scored 28 points for Toronto, but the Raptors struggled to contain Golden State's offense down the stretch.

The teams were separated by just four points entering the fourth quarter, with Golden State leading 98-94.
The Warriors then outscored Toronto 31-23 in the final period to secure the victory.
Golden State's offensive execution proved decisive, particularly its ball movement and perimeter shooting.
Ahead of the January 27 matchup, ATS analyst Chase Ruttig recommended Over 235 points at -110 odds.
His analysis focused on three factors: both teams' recent scoring trends, Toronto's improved outside shooting, and the history of high-scoring meetings between the Raptors and Warriors.
1. Both teams had been trending toward higher-scoring games
Golden State entered the matchup with a 27-18-3 Over/Under record, while Toronto stood at 27-22-0.
Those records suggested that the betting market had frequently underestimated the combined scoring in games involving either team.
2. Toronto's perimeter shooting had improved
The Raptors had shot 39.1% from three-point range over their previous five games, averaging 117.6 points during that stretch.
That recent offensive improvement was particularly relevant against a Warriors team capable of producing large scoring totals at home.
3. Previous matchups favored higher totals
The Over had hit in six of Toronto's previous seven road games and five of the last seven meetings between the Raptors and Warriors.
Historical trends don't guarantee future results, but they provided additional context for Ruttig's selection.
Yes. Golden State's 129-117 victory produced 246 combined points, clearing the recommended 235-point total by 11 points.
A $100 wager at -110 odds would have returned approximately $90.91 in profit.
The prediction was successful, although the final result alone doesn't establish that the original line offered value. Evaluating the reasoning behind a bet remains just as important as recording the outcome.
Several aspects of the January 2023 game help explain why the total finished above 235 points.
Curry's 35 points were important, but his 11 assists also demonstrated how effectively Golden State moved the ball.
The Warriors finished with 40 assists, their highest total of the season at that point.
That ball movement created scoring opportunities throughout the lineup and made it difficult for Toronto to concentrate its defensive attention on one player.
Thompson finished with six made three-pointers, providing a major contribution to Golden State's offensive production.
Jonathan Kuminga also made four consecutive three-pointers late in the third quarter, helping the Warriors establish a lead they would not surrender.
Outside shooting was one of the biggest factors behind the game's high combined score.
Although Toronto lost by 12 points, the Raptors still scored 117.
That matters when evaluating an Over/Under bet. A competitive game with meaningful scoring contributions from both teams can clear a high total even when one side pulls away late.
The Raptors scored 36 points in the opening quarter and remained within reach entering the fourth.
The January 2023 game provides a useful historical example, but betting on future meetings requires an assessment of the current teams.
Rosters, coaching approaches, rotations, and playing styles can change considerably over several seasons.
The following factors deserve particular attention.
Game pace has a direct influence on the number of scoring opportunities available.
A matchup featuring two teams that push the ball in transition may create more possessions than one involving slower, half-court offenses.
However, pace alone doesn't make an Over attractive.
Bettors should also examine how efficiently each team converts its opportunities and whether the available total already reflects the expected tempo.
Our NBA matchup analysis provides current game information, including team efficiency, pace, injuries, and betting lines.
The Warriors have historically relied heavily on perimeter shooting, making three-point attempts and defensive coverage important considerations.
Toronto's ability to defend the perimeter, contest outside shots, and limit second-chance opportunities can influence the scoring outlook.
For future meetings, focus on current shooting volume and efficiency rather than relying on the teams' numbers from 2023.
A particularly strong or weak shooting performance in one recent game may also be misleading without a larger statistical sample.
Player availability can significantly affect both the point spread and game total.
The absence of a primary scorer may reduce a team's offensive potential, while an injury to an important defender can create additional opportunities for the opponent.
Changes to the starting lineup can also affect playing time, shot distribution, and the pace at which a team operates.
Check confirmed injury reports and expected rotations before placing a wager.
Offensive rebounds create extra possessions and can increase scoring opportunities without requiring a faster overall pace.
A team with a substantial advantage on the glass may generate enough additional shots to influence the result or push the combined score higher.
Defensive rebounding is equally important, particularly against opponents that rely on offensive boards to sustain possessions.
Back-to-back games, travel, and extended road trips can affect team performance.
These factors may influence shooting efficiency, defensive intensity, and how coaches distribute minutes.
The impact varies by team and situation, so scheduling disadvantages should be considered alongside the available odds.
Player props provide another way to evaluate a Raptors–Warriors matchup.
Rather than betting on the final score or total, bettors can focus on individual production in markets such as points, rebounds, assists, and made three-pointers.
Scoring props are influenced by expected minutes, shot volume, free-throw opportunities, and the opposing defense.
A player averaging 25 points per game isn't automatically a good Over bet at 24.5. The available odds and expected role matter just as much.
Assists can be particularly interesting when one team regularly sends additional defensive pressure toward a primary scorer.
That defensive approach may create passing opportunities, although teammates still need to convert their shots.
Made three-pointers can be volatile, especially for players taking relatively few attempts.
When evaluating these markets, consider recent attempt volume, expected minutes, and the opponent's perimeter defense.

There are three primary markets worth evaluating before a Raptors–Warriors game.
Market | What You're Betting On | Key Considerations |
|---|---|---|
Moneyline | Which team wins | Team strength, injuries, home-court advantage |
Point Spread | Winning margin relative to the line | Matchup advantages, rotations, market price |
Over/Under | Combined points scored | Pace, efficiency, shooting, defensive matchups |
Each market requires a different approach.
A team may be the more likely winner without offering value on the moneyline. Similarly, a matchup between two productive offenses doesn't automatically justify betting the Over.
The available price determines how often a wager must win to be profitable over time.
The original January 2023 matchup provides a straightforward example.
ATS recommended Over 235 points. Because Golden State and Toronto combined for 246, the selection won.
Had the teams combined for 234 points or fewer, the Over would have lost.
A total of exactly 235 would have resulted in a push, with the original stake returned under standard sportsbook rules.

Golden State defeated Toronto 129-117 at Chase Center. Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 35 points and 11 assists, while Klay Thompson added 29 points.
ATS analyst Chase Ruttig recommended Over 235 points at -110 odds. The game finished with 246 combined points, making the selection a winner.
Team efficiency, pace, injuries, three-point shooting, rebounding, and expected rotations are all important. Bettors should compare those factors with the current point spread, total, and moneyline odds.
Historical results can provide context, but their predictive value decreases as rosters and playing styles change. Current performance and matchup conditions should carry more weight than games played several seasons ago.
The January 27, 2023 matchup is a good example of how offensive trends, shooting efficiency, and individual performances can influence an NBA game total.
Chase Ruttig's Over 235 recommendation was supported by both teams' recent scoring patterns and Toronto's improved perimeter shooting. The final score of 129-117 confirmed a winning selection.
Future meetings require fresh analysis. The 2023 result shouldn't be treated as a reason to back another Over without examining the current matchup.
→ Our Take: The most useful lesson from the 2023 game is the importance of examining how two offenses match up against opposing defenses. Pace, shot quality, and available personnel matter more than historical betting trends alone. A strong prediction starts with the current numbers and ends with finding a price worth betting.
