Wild vs Mammoth Player Props: Quinn Hughes Could Expose Utah's Weak Spot

Updated October 27, 2026

The Minnesota Wild have won consecutive games, Kirill Kaprizov is scoring goals for fun, and Quinn Hughes is doing what he does best. Unfortunately for the Utah Mammoth, their penalty kill has been an absolute disaster.
Minnesota visits Salt Lake City on Tuesday, October 27, for a meeting between the two leading teams in the Central Division. Both enter on winning streaks, although Utah's defensive numbers leave plenty to be desired.
The Mammoth have allowed 40 goals through 12 games, and their penalty kill ranks among the NHL's worst at 66.7%.
That immediately caught my attention when examining the available player props.
With Hughes running Minnesota's power play and collecting assists at an extraordinary rate, his 1+ assist market looks particularly interesting.
Hughes has registered an assist in 11 of Minnesota's first 13 games. Utah's penalty kill is operating at just 66.7%, creating an interesting opportunity for the Wild defenseman.

Minnesota has put together an impressive start to the season, going 8-3-2 through its opening 13 games.
The Wild are coming off consecutive road victories over Seattle and Vancouver, outscoring their opponents 9-3 across those two appearances.
Kaprizov contributed a goal and an assist in both games, while Hughes celebrated his return to Vancouver by collecting his 500th career point.
Minnesota has been particularly effective defensively, allowing just 2.31 goals per game.
Utah has taken a different approach.
The Mammoth have scored 46 goals in 12 games, averaging 3.83 per appearance. Unfortunately, they've also conceded 40.
Saturday's 5-4 overtime victory against Tampa Bay was a perfect example. Utah fell behind 4-2 before completing an impressive comeback, with Dmitri Simashev scoring the winner.
There's certainly no shortage of offensive talent on this roster.
Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley, Dylan Guenther, and Nick Schmaltz give Utah several dangerous combinations, while Mikhail Sergachev has been producing from the blue line.
However, defenseman John Marino remains sidelined with an upper-body injury.
Minnesota is missing Brock Faber, Filip Gustavsson, and both Foligno brothers, but the Wild have managed those absences remarkably well.
Quinn Hughes has registered 13 assists in 13 games this season. More importantly, he's recorded at least one assist in 11 of those appearances.
That's an extraordinary level of consistency, even for one of the NHL's premier offensive defensemen.
He's averaging almost 27 minutes of ice time per game and continues to play a central role in Minnesota's offensive production.
The most interesting part of Tuesday's matchup is the special-teams situation.
Minnesota's power play is converting at 26.2%, while Utah has successfully killed just 66.7% of opposing opportunities.
That's a potentially significant mismatch.
Hughes operates on Minnesota's first power-play unit alongside Kaprizov, Matt Boldy, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Maxim Shabanov.
With Kaprizov already sitting on 13 goals and Boldy regularly generating offensive opportunities, Hughes has plenty of dangerous players to feed.
His production isn't entirely dependent on the power play, either. He's been contributing consistently at even strength throughout the opening month.
The obvious concern is sustainability. Nobody should expect Hughes to collect an assist in almost every game for an entire season.
But against an opponent struggling defensively, I think there's enough reason to support another contribution.
Quinn Hughes — 1+ Assist
Polymarket US has Hughes at 62¢ to register at least one assist.
Considering he's managed that in 11 of 13 appearances, it's an interesting position.
I'm particularly encouraged by Minnesota's first power-play unit against Utah's struggling penalty kill.
His 1+ point market is available at 68¢, but I prefer the assists contract at the lower price. Hughes has scored three goals this season, and his offensive value remains primarily tied to creating opportunities for others.
Kirill Kaprizov — 1+ Goal
Kaprizov has been ridiculous.
The Minnesota superstar has scored 13 goals in 13 appearances, including four across his previous five games.
He's also scored in nine separate games this season.
Polymarket US currently has his 1+ goal contract at 43¢.
That's certainly interesting against a Utah team allowing more than three goals per game.
However, there's a catch.
Kaprizov is converting an extraordinary percentage of his shots, and I expect that efficiency to decline eventually.
I wouldn't be surprised if he scores again Tuesday, but I'm slightly more comfortable with Hughes contributing an assist.
Kirill Kaprizov — 2+ Points
For those looking at a higher-risk position, Kaprizov's 2+ points market deserves attention.
It's available at 39¢.
He's already recorded multiple points in seven of Minnesota's 13 games, including three of his previous five.
The combination of Utah's defensive problems and Kaprizov's form makes another multi-point performance entirely plausible.
Nevertheless, this requires more offensive production than the other selections, and the Mammoth are a dangerous opponent at home.
At 39¢, I find it interesting, but not quite as convincing as Hughes recording an assist.
