Updated October 30, 2026

Juventus and Napoli arrive with identical records, 14 points from nine games, and both sit roughly five points below their expected points. Juve have the best defence in Serie A (5.42 xGA) but can't finish, while Napoli create 2.27 xG a game and keep dropping points. Add Spalletti facing the club he won the Scudetto with, under pressure after Wednesday's 2-0 loss at Genoa, and there's plenty riding on Sunday.

Out: Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram, Francisco Conceicao, Nico Gonzalez, Zeki Celik, Jeff Ekhator, Kamil Grabara, Arkadiusz Milik
Doubts / Selection Notes: Randal Kolo Muani has started every league game but has one goal from 2.72 xG. Nick Woltemade is pushing to partner him or replace him. Pape Sarr looks set to keep his place in midfield ahead of Teun Koopmeiners.
What Changes: With Yildiz, Conceicao and Gonzalez all out, Juve have lost most of their wide creativity. That’s why Spalletti has moved to a 3-5-2 with two strikers.
Out: Stanislav Lobotka, Alessandro Buongiorno, Benoit Badiashile, Leonardo Spinazzola, Costantino Favasuli, Alisson Santos, David Neres
Doubts / Selection Notes: Alex Meret and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic have shared the goalkeeping this season, it is a coin flip regarding who starts. Kevin De Bruyne came off the bench to score at Monza and should return to the XI here.
What Changes: Without Lobotka, Allegri has no natural holding midfielder. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa sits deepest in the three, with De Bruyne and Scott McTominay further forward.
GK: Vicario
DEF: Gatti, Bremer, Lucumi
MID: Kalulu, McKennie, Douglas Luiz, Sarr, Cambiaso
ATT: Woltemade, Kolo Muani
GK: Meret
DEF: Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, R. Marin, Olivera
MID: Anguissa, De Bruyne, McTominay
ATT: Politano, Hojlund, Lang
Key Selection Decisions: Does Woltemade start? He’s averaging 0.72 xG per 90 in his league minutes, more than double Kolo Muani’s 0.31, and he’s yet to score in Serie A. If Spalletti goes with Kolo Muani and Kerim Alajbegovic instead, Juve lose their best penalty-box presence against a back four that’s had to reshuffle without Buongiorno.
This is the matchup that decides the game. De Bruyne leads Napoli with 4 goals, 3.46 xG and 2.25 xA, and he’s creating 3.90 key passes per 90, the best rate in the squad.
Juventus have been the hardest side in Serie A to create against, allowing just 0.60 xG per game, but Locatelli and Thuram both normally sit in that screen.
Douglas Luiz, McKennie and Sarr now have to track a player who drifts between the lines and picks passes from the half-space. If De Bruyne gets turned in that zone, Napoli’s front three will get chances Juve haven’t been giving up.
Hojlund has 3 goals from 3.26 xG and opened the scoring at Monza by running in behind from a Di Lorenzo through ball. He’s also become a creator, with 1.87 xA, often dropping deep to link play.
Bremer is the reason Juventus concede so little. He’s played every league minute this season and has chipped in with two goals at the other end. Expect Bremer to follow Hojlund when he drops, which leaves space behind for Lang and Politano to attack.
Juventus create only 0.07 xG per open-play shot, less than half Napoli’s 0.15. Set pieces are where they become dangerous: 3.05 xG from set plays at 0.22 per shot, plus 2.57 from corners. Bremer and Gatti are both strong in the air, and Napoli have already conceded twice from corners, now without Buongiorno. In a game where Juve might not create much in open play, a dead ball could be their best route to a goal.
Key Metric (2026/27 Serie A, Understat) | Juventus | Napoli |
|---|---|---|
xG per game | 1.59 | 2.27 |
xGA per game | 0.60 | 1.22 |
Expected points (actual points) | 18.82 (14) | 18.75 (14) |
Open-play xG per shot | 0.07 | 0.15 |
xG / xGA per game, last five | 1.40 / 0.76 | 2.74 / 1.09 |
xG / xGA per game, home / away | 1.51 / 0.40 at home | 2.13 / 1.40 away |
Juve’s home defence is extraordinary. They’ve allowed 1.60 xG in four games at the Allianz, an average of 0.40 a game, yet they still lost 3-0 at home to Lazio from just 0.82 xG against. Napoli are the opposite.
Over the last five league games they’ve averaged 2.74 xG, the best attacking run of either side, but they’ve dropped points against Roma and Venezia despite controlling the chances.
Something has to give. Either Napoli’s creation breaks a defence nobody has broken, or Juve finally turn their solidity into points.
Player | Goals | Assists | xG | xA | Key passes per 90 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Randal Kolo Muani (JUV) | 1 | 1 | 2.72 | 0.65 | 0.91 |
Douglas Luiz (JUV) | 1 | 1 | 0.46 | 1.36 | 1.44 |
Gleison Bremer (JUV) | 2 | 0 | 1.23 | 0.68 | 0.67 |
Kevin De Bruyne (NAP) | 4 | 1 | 3.46 | 2.25 | 3.90 |
Rasmus Hojlund (NAP) | 3 | 0 | 3.26 | 1.87 | 0.84 |
Matteo Politano (NAP) | 2 | 3 | 1.54 | 2.60 | 2.11 |
Juventus have 11 goals from 14.31 xG, and the gap is almost all up front. Kolo Muani has one goal from 2.72 xG. Woltemade has none from 1.98.
At Genoa on Wednesday, Juve outcreated their hosts 1.30 to 0.92 on xG and still lost 2-0, with Pierre Kalulu missing the best chance from 12 yards and Koopmeiners hitting the bar late on. The chances are there. The finishing is still lacking.
Napoli have won two of five away games, but the numbers away from home are strong: 2.13 xG per game, with 2.56 xG in the 1-0 defeat at Venezia, Venezia’s only win of the season. They concede more on the road (1.40 xGA per game), and the 3-2 defeat at Inter showed how open they can get against a side that commits numbers forward. Juve rarely do.
ATS Expert Verdict

“This is the best defence in Serie A against one of its best attacks, and both sides are better than the table says. Juve’s 0.40 xGA per home game makes it hard to see Napoli running away with it, and without Locatelli and Thuram the midfield is the weak point De Bruyne will look to exploit. The model is backing Juventus Draw No Bet, I personally lean towards a Napoli win due to Juve's finishing woes.”
